Donald Trump: A clear, present and growing danger

“Almost two years after that fateful day … Donald Trump and his allies and supporters are a clear and present danger to American democracy.” Judge J. Michael Luttig, June 16, 2022, referring to the January 6, 2021, insurrection to stop the certification of the lawful election of Joe Biden to the office of President of the United States of America.

Judging by the continued moral decay of the Republican Party as evidenced of late by its increasingly more mindless adherence to the never ending lies of the would-be despot by the radical faction, the danger grows more dire by the day, exacerbated by the very decency of those who still believe in and hold out hope for truth, who see and recognize evidence over conjecture and accusation.

There can be no denying the growing threat; radical right candidates believing in and bolstering the false narratives of the Great Liar are running for and winning primaries in jurisdictions small to great nationwide in this mid-term election of 2022.

Trump and his high-ranking sycophants intimidate and cow anyone questioning their false narratives, especially those who have the temerity to demand a lawful accounting, screaming for due process in venues in which due process rights do not apply, demanding the right to testify but refusing to attest as to the veracity of the testimony they are about to give.

The MAGA sycophants elected in 2022 are going to be the officials who give in, if necessary, and enable a usurper in 2024 to steal the election he lost in 2020.

“There’s no clearer example of the menacing spirit that has devoured the American left than the disgraceful performance being staged by the unselect committee,” Trump said at a conference hosted by the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Nashville, Tennessee. “They’re con people,” Trump continued. “They’re con artists.”

Just as in 60 legal and appropriate challenges in courts of competent jurisdiction since the 2020 election, the claims were simple allegations, with no proof, no basis in fact. No evidence. Smoke and unfounded bluster, the purview of sixth grade bullies who steal the lunch money or lunch boxes of second graders. We should ever stand up for robbed, never the robbers.

Donald Trump, his allies and supporters are a clear and present danger to American democracy, but so too are we who see it and say nothing, do nothing. We who don’t vote. We who aren’t so angry and offended that we don’t stand up as one, grab Donald Trump and those who empower him them by the lapels and scream in their face, “Have you no decency?! No shame?”

We are complicit.
